How to Manually Update a WordPress Theme

For our NotablePress WordPress theme, we have an updater built-in for new updates to the theme.

However, there comes a point from time-to-time when you need to update a theme manually.

Fortunately, there’s a way to do this without the need of accessing SFTP or touching the code. Just follow these steps:

  1. Log into your site’s admin and navigate to Plugins and click “Add New”
  2. Download, install, and activate the free Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades plugin
  3. Navigate to Appearance, Themes, and click “Add New”
  4. Upload the zip file containing the new version of the theme you wish to install.

Normally, uploading a theme that already exists would throw an error on your site. But with the Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades plugin installed, it will replace the old theme with the new one.

NOTE: Ensure you run a complete backup on your site prior to updating any theme or plugin.
